A Look Back at Our Most Memorable Catholic Speakers

dr ray guarendi

As we gear up for the 2026 Good News Cruise, we want to reflect on the inspiring talks from past Catholic speakers who have touched our hearts and minds. These speakers have shared invaluable insights on faith, relationships, and the journey to joy, making each cruise a transformative experience.

Father Mike Schmitz

In his talk on the 2022 Good News Cruise, Father Mike Schmitz highlights the way we view our own relationships with God, and how we pass those beliefs down to our children. He examines the various ways people allow their faith to be destroyed by the evil and suffering that is encountered in everyday life and encourages listeners to look to God and know that we are worth loving despite our imperfections.

Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers

When addressing the crowd of the 2020 Good News Cruise, Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers asked listeners to examine the reason they got married. He provides a clear and concise answer, “I believe with all my heart and all my mind and all my soul that this is the person that God has placed in my life to help me get to heaven.” He examines the roles of husbands and wives, and how they better one another to take steps closer to God, along with ways to show your spouse how much they mean to you.

Teresa Tomeo and Deacon Dom

Teresa Tomeo and Deacon Dom reflected on the highs and lows of their marriage in their 2020 talk on the Good News Cruise. When asked their number one tip for marriage, Teresa shared: “It’s not one thing, it’s one person. Having Jesus at the center of your marriage, having a personal relationship with Jesus, your spouse having a personal relationship, and you having that as three.” They share a letter from an early Christian writer to his wife around 200 AD, reflecting on the beauty of marriage and the role that faith plays in a successful union.

Father Leo Patalinghug

2022 Good News Cruisers were delighted when Father Patalinghug hosted a cooking segment on ship. As he prepared a dessert, he shared insights into the idea that “Church is boring” and how asking questions and seeking deeper meaning helps combat the mundane. He then allowed time for a Q&A, answering questions from cruisers and inviting them on stage to sample his recipe!

Chris Stefanick

In 2023, Chris Stefancik took to the stage to share his rules for finding joy. “I’ve watched marriages end because they started with gratitude, but the mind starts to focus on what’s wrong. It grows like a cancer and kill the relationship.” He invites listeners to give themselves up to God and allow his love to guide our relationships and lifestyles. He notes that this joy goes far beyond surface level feelings, and that the natural feelings of sadness and joy can coexist.
